This isn't an exhaustive list. It's a curated one: the tools, books, and podcasts I actually use and trust. I'd rather give you ten good things than a hundred mediocre ones.

I'll keep this to what I actually use and trust.
Your first wallet
The easiest place to start, and the first wallet I recommend now. An encrypted messaging app (built on Signal's protocol) with a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet built right into the chat — Lightning and on-chain. Send sats as easily as sending a text.
Simplest self-custody
Made by Block. A high-quality device, and it's self-custody without a seed phrase to keep up with. The easiest way to hold your own keys.
Hardware
A note on hardware: you don't need a device the day you start. Learn how Bitcoin works first, then move to self-custody when you're ready. There's no rush.
Where to Buy Bitcoin
Again, just what I use and trust.
Private (non-KYC)
A free, open-source app that lets you buy directly from other people, with escrow protecting both sides. No company in the middle, no ID upload.
Other private ways to get sats — good to know about, even if Bisq is my go-to.
Easy (KYC)
A great low-to-no-fee on-ramp for beginners in supported countries. Familiar, simple, and you can withdraw your Bitcoin to a wallet you control.
KYC vs non-KYC is a personal decision, and there's no wrong answer. Non-KYC keeps more of your privacy; a regulated app like Cash App is the simplest place to start. Our guide to buying without KYC covers the trade-offs.
